PC ComponentsOK, first off, no anti-PC, anti-Mickeysoft comments from you schMacintosh zealots.

Since my IBM T30 laptop has been on its last legs for several months with a bum screen (connected to external monitor), CPU fan that occasionally doesn’t turn on preventing booting, and keys falling off, I finally delved into savings and purchased new PC components to build a decent modern desktop system for 100% dedicated business use (web software development, video editing for clients, and home office management).

OK, so why a desktop instead of a laptop, and why a PC instead of a Mac?! The answer to the first question is that my non-mobile laptop situation re-conditioned me to the home office desktop workstation, which is a whole lot cheaper than a laptop. And I already have 2 Mac iBook laptops, one of which also has a bum screen, so is basically a desktop machine anyway

For web software development I need to test on a variety of platforms, both Mac and PC/Windows with IE, Firefox, Safari, and Chrome browsers at a minimum. For video editing I’ll be trying the Linux OpenShot software, but may need to bite the bullet and purchase something commercial, like Sony Vegas…

In addition to Windoze 7, I plan to triple-boot this baby with Ubuntu Linux and FreeDOS. For the occasional system programming gig in C, C++, etc, I prefer development on BSD or Linux since the tools are so much better and the platform is rock solid!
